I appreciate your honesty in this article Gillian. I dated celibate for a couple of years and also had mostly very positive responses. I was disappointed to read the phrase ‘saving yourself’ numerous times. Saving yourself from what? It has connotations of shame and female subjugation that are at odds with the way you have declared yourself as being empowered and in control of your own destiny. It’s not easy to let go of religious hangups. All power to anyone who is celibate, I think it’s awesome, but let’s not kid ourselves about what often influences these decisions. Keep writing ☺
